Over fifteen years ago I determined that, although I could change how the face looked with surgery, this would not change the quality of the skin. In order to offer a complete service for my patients, I would need to provide skin care in addition to the plastic surgery. To this end I opened Advanced Medical Skin Care at the same location as my medical practice. With the addition of these services, I can be sure that my patients receive top medically supervised skin care.
Why Skin Care
Throughout life everyone is exposed to the sun and air pollution whether it be casually or in extreme doses. This exposure, along with smoking, alcohol, medications, stress, and harsh weather conditions, leave the skin with a dull, dry, discolored, and lined complexion. In more profound cases, pre cancerous lesions may appear. These damaging agents present in the environment cause the skin to age prematurely and increase hyperpigmentation.
Over time, normal aging and damage from the environment (sun, stress and pollution) cause the skin to lose its ability to ‘renew’ itself properly. Cell turnover slows, causing the dead skin layer at the stratum corneum or surface to be thicker, slowing the flow of moisture from within and resulting in a dry, uneven skin texture. Skin cells are disorganized and misshapen. Daily exposure to sunlight causes the amount of pigment in each cell to increase, producing freckles or age spots and uneven skin tone. Collagen and elastin begin to break down, causing the skin to lose its resilience, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and sagging.
The epidermis is in a constant state of renewal, completely replacing itself every 28 days. The miracle starts in the lower layers of the epidermis, where new cells are continually forming. As they mature, they slowly work their way to the surface, where, after becoming depleted of moisture, they are sloughed off. As we age, this process slows down and becomes less effective causing thicker less resilient skin. This less pliable skin begins to wrinkle. The Biomedic Micro Peel, Silk Peels and Microdermabrasion work to enhance the process of exfoliation by more quickly removing the older layer of dead skin and helping to making this process more effective and uniform. This can all be done without the downtime associated with harsher chemical peels. You can return to work or shopping within minutes.
Skin Care Products
When skin is treated with various skin care products, damaged skin cell functions are corrected. The skin’s cellular functions are accelerated allowing continual renewal as dead skin cells are replaced by fresh cells pushed to the skin’s surface, making the surface (stratum corneum) smoother and naturally hydrated. Freckles and age spots fade. Pigment cells (melanin) are kept from over-producing new pigment, preventing the appearance of new freckles and age spots. The skin produces more collagen and elastin, promoting resilience and firmness. All these functions work together to keep skin looking and acting younger and healthier.

IPL technology improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for the face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and produces few side effects. The gentle, non-ablative treatments use broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck and hands–virtually anywhere that sun damage shows.
Fraxel Laser Treatment
For years, patients have desired a breakthrough aesthetic approach with many of the benefits of ablative laser skin resurfacing (performed with a CO2 laser), but without the downtime, side effects and lengthy recovery period. The solution: Fraxel™ Laser Treatment.
Fraxel Laser Treatment produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as MicroThermal Zones. This treatment eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells. It also penetrates deeply into the dermis. Just as important, though, are the areas of skin the Fraxel laser leaves untouched. The Fraxel laser is so precise that it penetrates the non-living, protective barrier of the skin, called the stratum corneum, as if it were a window and leaves it completely intact. For every microthermal zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections.
Jane Iredale Makeup
Known as The Skin Care Makeup, the Jane Iredale line is so safe and beneficial to use that it is recommended by Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists throughout the world.
Jane’s line is a highly-sophisticated blend of minerals and pigments which are micro-pulverized, using proprietary technology and processes to form microscopic flat crystals. These crystals overlap each other on the skin to form a filter that allows the skin to breathe and function normally while still protecting it from air-borne pollutants. The staying power of the minerals is so great that they rarely need a touch-up during the day. And because these silky-feeling powders are water resistant, they won’t crease or smear even during the most strenuous exercise.
These state-of-the-art minerals are available in so many colors that there’s one for every complexion no matter what the ethnicity.
Permanent makeup, sometimes referred to as cosmetic tattooing, can relieve you from the everyday hassle of applying makeup and ultimately enhance your natural beauty. Permanent makeup is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes intradermal pigmentation techniques that can eliminate the need for daily applications of lip liner, color, and other common makeup products. This can be particularly helpful for women with cosmetics allergies, vision impairments, unsteady hands, and for those who simply want makeup to last without requiring seemingly endless touch-ups.
Permanent makeup treatments are performed by one of our certified Master Aestheticians, Gina Anderton Kirk. Gina can help you permanently enhance the upper and lower eyelids, the eyebrows, and the lips with these effective procedures.
We laugh, we frown and we concentrate and over time these expression leave their mark on our face. Sometimes we need more than just skin care. We need to reduce those wrinkles and lines that are more than skin deep. Forehead creases, lines around the eyes and troughs between nose and the corner of the mouth just don’t respond to regular treatments. This is when BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM® and RADIESSE® are important. BOTOX® is used to relax the muscles on the forehead and around the eyes. Fillers are used to temporarily reduce the deep lines and wrinkles around the mouth and under the eyes.
Sometime skin care, fillers and cosmetics are not enough. This is when the art of plastic surgery comes into play. Whether it is a facelift, tummy tuck, breast augmentation or liposuction, it is available at my practice. I am a board certified plastic surgeon and member of The American Society of Plastic Surgery as well as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
