Am I a Candidate for FTM Transgender Breast Surgery?

woman on computer

For the right individuals, female to male (FTM) breast reduction surgery can be an exceptionally rewarding procedure that changes one’s life for the better. This unique transgender operation is designed to reduce the visibility of “feminine” features and help patients achieve a more masculine-appearing chest through a combination of liposuction and tissue excision. In some cases, nipple grafting may also be necessary to attain an ideal outcome.

To be considered a good candidate for FTM breast reduction – which is sometimes referred to as “top surgery” – patients must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy
  • Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook on surgery

In addition to this criteria, patients at my practice must have a signed letter of endorsement from their counselor. The supporting health professional must make it clear that he or she knows the patient, has been providing care for a prolonged period of time, and believes the patient is psychologically fit for the irreversible FTM breast reduction procedure.

If you are interested in female to male breast surgery in the Roanoke, VA area, I encourage you to schedule a consultation at my practice. During this appointment, I can perform an extensive evaluation and we can discuss your needs and goals to determine if proceeding with treatment would be the best option at this time.
