FemTouch™: The Nonsurgical Solution to Vaginal Rejuvenation

Woman in Roanoake, VA lying in bed and very happy after completing FemTouch™ procedure

As the years go by, our bodies change—and intimate areas are no exception. Childbirth and aging can affect vaginal health and create dryness, laxity, or urinary incontinence. While vaginal changes are perfectly natural, many women want to correct the damage and live without worry or pain. As a plastic surgery and medispa practice here in Roanoke, we’re happy to offer a solution to these common problems with FemTouch™ vaginal rejuvenation.

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

The term “vaginal rejuvenation” can cover many different treatment options, ranging from surgical vaginoplasty to nonsurgical radiofrequency or laser devices.

Nonsurgical procedures may improve vaginal tissue, increase sensitivity, and restore natural lubrication. Rejuvenation also often works well to improve bladder control, so you can finally laugh and sneeze without worry.

What is FemTouch?

At Aesthetic Surgery of Virginia, we use the power of lasers to address common vaginal issues with the FemTouch system made by Lumenis, the leader in medical laser technology. FemTouch was developed to reduce vaginal dryness, and it’s CO2 laser system offers many advantages over other laser treatments that use erbium or radiofrequency energy to improve vaginal tissue.

FemTouch treatments are quick, taking only about 5 minutes. Other radiofrequency treatments can take as long as 30 minutes, which can seem like a long time to have a device inserted in the vaginal canal. The collagen-boosting heat of FemTouch’s CO2 laser also penetrates the tissue more deeply than erbium lasers, more profoundly stimulating new vaginal tissue growth.

How does nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation work?

The FemTouch procedure is a very brief, painless treatment that creates satisfying results with no downtime. During treatment, your provider will insert a lubricated, sterile probe into the vaginal canal and slowly rotate it as laser light is released into the surrounding skin. These laser points encourage the lining to repair itself by stimulating collagen production, thereby encouraging the production of new vaginal tissue.

Three treatments, typically spaced 1 month apart, are usually recommended. Our all-female nursing staff is with you every step of the way to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Can vaginal rejuvenation improve incontinence or vaginal appearance?

Yes, this treatment specifically targets the tissues near the urethra and was found to have beneficial effects for some women with stress incontinence. Some women also report that the treatment seems to tighten redundant or loose external genitalia (extra or wrinkled labia minora). Your provider will talk with you about your goals and these customization options so you can enjoy the best possible results.

Is vaginal rejuvenation painful?

No, vaginal rejuvenation with FemTouch is not a painful treatment. The procedure is quick and involves little discomfort, and a numbing agent can be applied if needed. During your FemTouch session, you may feel slight pressure against the vaginal wall or temporary sensitivity near the vaginal opening. Some women experience mild itching or discharge for 72 hours after treatment, so it’s best to abstain from sex or tampon use during this time.

How long do vaginal rejuvenation results last?

Vaginal rejuvenation with FemTouch creates long-lasting, satisfying results. However, the body continues to age over time, so some women return for an additional session every 1 to 2 years. Talk with your doctor about your rejuvenation options and schedule a treatment plan, if desired.

Some women feel embarrassed talking about vaginal changes, but there is no reason to be ashamed. You have treatment options that may improve your quality of life and help you to feel more comfortable in your own skin for years to come.
