Answers to Common Questions
If you are considering cosmetic surgery or treatment, we invite you to read the following answers to common patient questions. This information is meant to provide you with some insight into the way our practice runs prior to your consultation.
What should I look for in a plastic surgeon?
The most important thing to look for is that he or she is board-certified, specifically by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. A little-known fact is that not everyone who performs cosmetic procedures is a trained plastic surgeon. Board certification in plastic surgery shows that your doctor has invested the time and successfully completed the training to administer these specific medical treatments. Secondly, make sure that your surgeon is also a member of medical organizations such as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Plastic Surgery. These organizations have requirements for the conduct and policies of a physician that further protect you as a patient. Lastly, you should look for a surgeon with whom you are comfortable and who answers your questions to your satisfaction. Ask to see before-and-after pictures of patients. Ask to talk to someone who has had the procedure you want. Don’t be afraid express your concerns. Your surgeon should give you peace of mind, not intimidate you or make you nervous.
What types of consultations are available for a procedure?
First, you should determine your needs and goals. If you are unsure what exact treatment or procedure you want, we offer a pre-consultation. This 30-minute visit with one of our staff will provide information, brochures, and a general price range for a procedure. If you want to find out whether you are a good candidate for a specific procedure, and want more specific details about a potential surgery, Dr. Enrique Silberblatt himself will answer questions specific to you, give you a complete quote, and look at available dates.
What appointments are necessary before a procedure?
In most cases you will be required to visit us about a week before your procedure to have a pre-surgery history and physical examination. This will include blood work, urine analysis, listening to your lungs and heart, and answering your last-minute questions. If you are getting a breast augmentation, you will also have an appointment for sizing of the implants. These appointments all take place at Dr. Silberblatt’s office.
Are there any prerequisites to surgery?
If you are having breast augmentation and are over 35, you should have a baseline mammogram prior to surgery. If you are having an upper or lower eyelids procedure, you will need to have had an eye exam. In some operations with anesthesia, an EKG within the past 6 months may be necessary. We will do an EKG at our office, but if Dr. Silberblatt sees any abnormalities, he will send it to your personal physician for interpretation and any needed follow up.
What about follow-ups after a procedure?
To ensure a smooth recovery, it is vital that you follow post-op instructions. The first 24 hours after a procedure are the most important. In most cases, Dr. Silberblatt will see you the following day after surgery at his office. Additionally, Dr. Silberblatt will typically want to see you the next week to see how you are progressing and to remove sutures. He will track your progress for the next 3 to 6 months.
What else do you offer besides surgery?
Treating the patient does not end with just cosmetic procedures that move the skin around. Sometimes you need to treat the quality of the skin itself. This is why Dr. Silberblatt has personally trained his aesthetician to do skin care. This includes Biomedic Micropeels (the lunchtime facial peels), microdermabrasion, SilkPeel, intense pulsed light (IPL), Isolaz® and Fraxel® laser resurfacing. We also offer medical-strength skincare products that improve the quality of the skin on a day-to-day basis.Back to Top
