Dr. Enrique Silberblatt
Plastic surgeon Dr. Enrique Silberblatt has practiced plastic surgery in Roanoke, VA, since 1985. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. During his career, Dr. Silberblatt has always preferred to deliver high-quality, individual patient care over developing a high-volume practice.
Practice Philosophy and Interests
As a physician first, and businessman second, Dr. Silberblatt believes that strong communication fosters understanding and trust. Whether performing surgical procedures such as breast augmentations or providing minimally invasive treatments like injectables at his Roanoke cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Silberblatt does everything possible to spend the time needed with every patient from Smith Mountain Lake, Lexington, Moneta, and surrounding areas to understand his or her specific needs and expectations.
When in the exam room, Dr. Silberblatt gives each patient his complete attention. Unless there is a pending emergency, he leaves his cell phone in his office. He believes his job is to listen to patients, understand their concerns, and make every effort to offer a complete set of solutions. He never makes decisions for his patients but instead prefers to partner with them to arrive at the best solution for their unique situations.
Dr. Silberblatt most frequently performs breast augmentations, abdominoplasties, and facelifts. He does equal numbers of all three procedures and enjoys the subtle differences and challenges of each patient’s situation.
He also enjoys performing reconstructive procedures to close scars or open wounds that require careful closure to be minimally visible. Examples include cleft lips or cancers of the tip of the nose.
Education and Training
Dr. Silberblatt graduated from Princeton University in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science and wrote his thesis on the development of plastic surgery as a specialty during World War I. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College, did his surgical internship at the University of Miami, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts.
He then pursued plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh and completed a fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital and another in hand and microsurgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Since 1985 Dr. Silberblatt has completed between 50 and 100 hours of continuing medical education every year.
Dr. Silberblatt was born in Mexico City and came to the United States when he was five years old. He grew up in New York City, where his father is from. He spent his summers in Vermont and always loved the outdoors and forests. Because Roanoke’s rural environment reminded him of his days in Vermont’s Green Mountains, he decided to start his practice here.
Dr. Silberblatt has two grown sons; one lives in San Francisco and the other lives in New York.
He is fluent in Spanish and has some knowledge of Italian, French, German, and Russian. His mother’s parents were from Russia and emigrated to Mexico shortly after the 1917 Russian revolution. His grandmother was a concert pianist, and he learned to play classical and flamenco guitar in high school.
Along with being a member of several highly esteemed medical professional societies, he was elected as 2018 president of the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons. As such, Dr. Silberblatt represents all surgeons who are VASPS members and is dedicated to promoting the highest ethical standards throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Outside of his medical pursuits, Dr. Silberblatt received his master’s degree in Liberal Studies from Hollins University in 2016. He concentrated in creative writing and is writing two novels. He has always been active in sports, including soccer, track, and gymnastics in college. Before his knees told him enough was enough, he completed 2 half Ironman triathlons and 9 marathons, 3 of which were the Boston Marathon. He worked the medical tent at the Kona Ironman in 1991, and he reached the level of second-degree senior black belt in karate. Currently, he rides elliptical bicycles, lifts weights, and enjoys reading, photography, and cooking.
