Out of Town Patients
When choosing a plastic surgeon the web is a very powerful tool—it allows the patients to meet their prospective doctors and review their videos, surgical approach and of course to their before and after photos. In turn, it is now very common for patients to choose a surgeon who may not be located near their home. Many of our patients find us on the web, or are referred to us by friends and family who are familiar with our practice.
In order to make your travel to and from our office comfortable and efficient we offer pre-consultations over the phone. This can help narrow down what surgery may be the best for your goals and to determine what surgery dates may suit your travel plans and recovery needs.
If a patient would like to schedule a surgery date prior to having been to our office, we will first conduct a pre-consultation over the phone, and in some cases such as nose surgeries or face lifts we are able to do a video chat to discuss the goals that you are trying to achieve. Surgical information and informational packets would be sent in the mail, as well as a list of any “not to do’s” prior to surgery. In addition, we are always available to discuss any questions or concerns that may arise. If you are a good candidate, we will preemptively schedule your date of surgery and an additional in office consultation for a few days prior; at that visit we can access your goals and needs fully and be sure that the proper surgical plan is in place. During the in office consultation, you will also meet the doctor, sign consent paper work, receive all of your post and preoperative prescriptions, learn about your recovery and what types of post operative care and follow ups you will need to adhere to. Once all surgical plans are finalized and your questions regarding surgery are fully answered we would continue as planned for your surgery date. Following surgery there is a period of time you would need to continue to be seen here in the office for suture removal and follow up exams; these vary depending on which procedure you are interested in.
For all patients who come to our office one very important question we will ask is “how far away do you live?” Some patients may not think of themselves as “out of town” but for the purposes of safety anyone who lives outside of an hours’ drive from the practice will be asked to stay here in Roanoke or the surrounding area. This ensures that should you need to be seen during your initial postoperative recovery, you are close by. It also makes the postoperative visit that is required the next morning an easier trip to make.
When we set up your surgery date we are happy to provide suggestions for accommodations in the area as well as any additional information you may request. The Star City offers many great accommodations and amenities for those traveling to our office.
