Ultherapy LogoUltherapy is a skin tightening treatment at our Roanoke, VA, practice that nonsurgically rejuvenates the appearance of skin on the face, neck, and décolletage. This noninvasive technique uses ultrasound energy to effectively lift and tighten skin, while helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles without using injectables or incisions. Ultherapy can be an excellent option for patients at our Roanoke cosmetic surgery office who seek modest improvements to sagging skin and minor facial lines, as well as for those who are not interested in a surgical procedure, such as a facelift.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a nonsurgical, FDA-cleared skin tightening treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to reach the deep subcutaneous layers of the skin. While the surface of the skin is unharmed, the body gradually produces fresh, new collagen to lift, smooth, and tighten the skin from within.

Where can Ultherapy be used?

We use Ultherapy to tighten and lift skin on the face and neck (see illustration).

Do Ultherapy treatments hurt?

Discomfort varies between patients and with the area being treated. Most people do experience some degree of discomfort during each pulse of ultrasound energy. We offer oral medication and numbing cream to patients who are concerned.

What happens during an Ultherapy treatment?

During the treatment, the Ultherapy applicator sends pulses of ultrasound energy into the deeper layers of the skin. Ultrasound imaging helps the provider adjust the depth and intensity of the treatment for different areas. Depending on the number of treatment areas you want to address, the entire Ultherapy procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete.

How many Ultherapy treatments are needed?

Most patients need only a single treatment to attain the skin tightening and smoothing they want. Maintenance treatments may be scheduled every year or so if desired.

How long does it take to recover from Ultherapy?

Ultherapy typically requires little to no recovery or downtime, although you may experience minor swelling or redness in the treatment areas. These symptoms should be temporary and often dissipate quickly.

How soon will I see reults from Ultherapy?

You can generally expect gradual improvement over the course of about 2 to 3 months as new collagen continues to be produced; although experiences vary. Ultherapy can achieve excellent skin tightening and rejuvenation results for proper candidates who have realistic expectations.

How many Ultherapy treatments are needed?

Patients usually need only a single treatment; however, some may need multiple treatments to attain desired results.
