KYBELLA® is a revolutionary new treatment designed to improve the appearance of a “double chin” through the nonsurgical elimination of submental fat cells. FDA-approved for patients 18 and older, this minimally invasive injectable works to break down and destroy diet and exercise-resistant fatty tissue below the chin without the need for incisions, surgery, and/or extended downtime. In addition, the effects of the procedure tend to be exceptionally long-lasting. Following a series of KYBELLA® treatments, patients can often achieve a slimmer, more toned under-chin contour and improved overall facial aesthetic.
The KYBELLA® Treatment
The innovative KYBELLA® product is formulated with deoxycholic acid, a substance that is found naturally in the body. During the procedure, the KYBELLA® solution is meticulously injected into targeted fat accumulations beneath the chin and/or along the jawline using an ultra-fine needle. Topical anesthesia can be employed to minimize any potential discomfort, and the majority of individuals report experiencing little to no pain at all. On average, the entire treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to perform, though this may vary based on the number of injections required. Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities within 24-48 hours, if not the same day.
If desired, Ultherapy® can often be utilized several months after KYBELLA® to nonsurgically improve any skin laxity that may be present once the fat has disappeared. These two techniques complement one another quite nicely to create a more comprehensive rejuvenation.
Recovery and Results
Some degree of swelling may be apparent for approximately 48 hours after treatment. Bruising lasting about a week is also not uncommon, but this symptom can typically be covered with makeup. Although rare, any potential soreness and/or discomfort can generally be diminished with medication. The contouring effects of KYBELLA® will often be visible after about two to four treatments, though a total of six sessions spaced at least one month apart may be necessary for some individuals to achieve optimal results. Once an ideal outcome has been attained, however, further treatment is usually not required as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained.
